When were you diagnosed? April 2012
Treatment location? Johnston Willis Hospital
How was it found? Self Exam Confirmed with Mammogram Ultrasound and Biopsy. Two masses of Invasive Ductal Carcinoma were found in my right breast. I chose to have a bilateral mastectomy with sentinel nodes and reconstruction. Fortunately my lymph nodes were clear!
Do you have a family history of breast cancer? Yes. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 48. She had a modified radical mastectomy at MCV and is a healthy 82 year old today!
As a woman what gives you your strength? My faith , children, family , friends and an amazing team of doctors have given me strength. I’m grateful to be a breast cancer survivor!
Briefly state in your own words something about yourself that you want people to know. This past year has been full of change. I have learned to face fear, anguish and pain with courage and determination. Things I once thought were important just don’t matter. I surround myself with the people I love most! Living each day with laughter, love and a brave heart.
